  1. T. M. Barnes et al. in 2017  reported that for more than a century, commercial pine tar preparations have been produced worldwide and relied upon to help soothe various skin conditions, including eczema and psoriasis. (Australasian Journal of Dermatology, 58, Pages: 80-85, 2017). Tars appear to function as keratolytic agents, helping to control the excessive growth of epidermal cells by suppressing DNA synthesis in hyperplastic skin. This, in turn, decreases mitotic activity and protein production within the basal layer of the epidermis.
